AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Affordable housing is for people who are unable to rent or buy on the open market. This includes rented housing, shared ownership, equity loans and low cost home ownership products.

Affordable rented homes are provided by both Sedgemoor District Council (Homes in Sedgemoor) and Registered Providers (Housing Associations), or in some cases by private landlords who charge rent below that charged on the open market.

These homes are ideal if you do not want, or are unable to obtain a mortgage.

If you wish to apply for rented housing, you can do so by visiting Homefinder Somerset.

In 2014 Mark Parish Council asked Sedgemoor District Council to carry out a "housing needs assessment" to identify the demand for affordable housing in Mark by members of the community with a connection to Mark and who would like to live here.  As a result of this assessment, it was determined that there was a need for at least 12 affordable rented homes.

Land in Northwick Road was identified to be the most appropriate location in the village and South West Housing Society (SWHS)  have been selected to undertake the development. Work started in December 2017 and it is anticipated the properties will be ready for occupation in Autumn 2018. See the 'Northwick Road Project' section for the latest updates.
