MARK PARISH COUNCIL - JUNE 2025

B3139  Blackford Road Safety Speed Limits

The Parish Council recently received a powerful presentation from Chris Barrow. It is worth bringing to wider attention his campaign.

It is now nearly 5 years since one of our Residents lost her life on the Blackford Road on the outskirts of the Village. 57-year-old Lorraine Barrow sadly lost her life in a Road Traffic accident outside her address. The Motorist who collided with her was subsequently prosecuted where it was proved that excess speed was a significant factor.

Lorriane’s Husband Chris has launched a campaign to try to reduce the speed limit between Mark and Blackford from the current 60 mph to 40 mph in those areas where the upper limit applies.  As an alternative he would request a 40mph buffer zone at each end of the 30mph limit. He and a growing band of supporters believe that the implementation of this change would dramatically reduce road hazards and protect the vitality of our community.

Such a change from 60 mph to 40mph has recently been made on a long stretch of the A372 Westonzoyland Road near Bridgwater and seems to have been well received.

Chris has started a petition on Change.Org. It is well worth looking at.

Fancy a challenge?

The Mark Parish Council website has been running for some years under the excellent care of Councillor Jendy Weekes. The website has been praised for its layout and useful information on our Parish and the various community bodies which help to make Mark such a lovely place to reside or work in.

Jendy is now happy to hand over the reins and we are keen to find anyone who is interested in administering the site on a voluntary basis.

The Parish Council will next meet on Tuesday 1st July at 7pm at the Church Hall. All are welcome to attend.
