HARVEST HOME

Mark Harvest Home started with the Mark Cricket Club which began in 1884.  In 1885 it was decided to have a cricket match and dance and to call it Mark Cricket Club Festival.  This continued until the First World War when it ceased for a while but began again after the war and took the form of Victory Celebrations.  After that it took the title of Harvest Home.

The day begins with a Thanksgiving Service in Mark Church.  Then everyone walks in procession to the Harvest Home field where there is a huge marquee decorated with floral and harvest hoops, which give the tent a festive appearance.  There is keen competition among the parishioners who decorate the hoops as prizes are awarded to the various entries in the Adults and Children’s classes.  After the lunch, which starts at 1.00 pm, and the toasts given by invited speakers, there are sports for the children and a fun fair, with a dance and bar in the evening, as well as afternoon tea for the villagers and friends, the day finishes with a dance and bar in the evening

Mark Harvest Home is held every year on the second Saturday of August.
